It is used to determine the in situ density of fine-grained compacted or cohesive soil. The device is placed on the hole created by digging the soil and water is filled into the rubber balloon and allowed to enter the hole. The amount of water displaced in the balloon is measured by grading on the scale. The device consists of a graduated plexiglass cylinder with a capacity of 1600 ml positioned on an aluminum alloy cast, a rubber pump with stop valve, a density plate and 12 rubber balloons.
